The Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer have Finally Arrived
Here are a few summer makeup tips to help sweat-proof your makeup when the heat and humidity threaten to melt it away.
Whether you are headed to the beach, out playing summer sports, hiking; whatever your passion, summer activities generally involve being out in the sun and perspiring. Following are a few tips and tricks to help keep your makeup in place.
Tips for that Beautiful Face
Questions abound as to what you should put on your face if you plan to spend time in the sun. Whatever you decide to apply to your face, it goes without saying that you need a good SPF for skin protection. Beyond that, there are so many other choices.
If you want more coverage, you can choose a waterproof foundation. Some people like a no makeup look when heading out during the summer. They may prefer to use a good SPF lotion with a bit of concealer as necessary. Still others may prefer the coverage afforded by a good tinted moisturizing cream.
If I am spending time in the sun, my preference is a tinted moisturizer with SPF. Make certain you choose a product with an SPF of at least 30, which is the minimum recommended by dermatologists. They also recommend that you reapply SPF every couple of hours when you are in the sun.
I prefer a tinted moisturizer because I want just a light amount of coverage, that I can reapply as needed. Lately, I have been using Glo Skin Beauty Moisturizing Tint SPF 30 in Light.
Summer Makeup Tips for the Sun Kissed Look
In my view, a sun kissed look means bronzer! Bronzer is used to imitate a tan, so it should be applied to the areas where the sun would naturally hit your face; along your forehead, on your cheekbones and at your chin line. Apply bronzer in light layers as it is easy to get too heavy handed with it. See, “2018 Summer Beauty Trends and Makeup Ideas” for more summer makeup tips on how to apply bronzer.
I prefer a powder bronzer because it stands up better to perspiration. My current go to bronzer is Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess.
Finish with a subtle blush applied to the apples of your cheeks. Apply in light layers and build up as you go to enhance staying power. Once again, I look to Tarte for my blush. I am currently using Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed.
We Cannot Forget the Eyes
Waterproof, sweat-proof eye makeup products are essential for summer fun days. Can you say, ‘raccoon eyes’? There is just nothing attractive about mascara and liner streaks under your eyes!
I do not use waterproof mascara on a regular basis. It is difficult to remove, and I generally lose a few lashes every time I remove it. However, it is essential if you will be out in the sun for any length of time. Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara is a good choice for occasional use. The product is reasonably priced, and it works well for as often as I need a waterproof mascara. It does dry out quickly, but the price is reasonable enough that you do not feel bad tossing it when it’s time.
My choice for heat and sweat resistant eyeliner is pencil liner. I have never had a problem with my liner running or smearing. I use crayon eyeliner pencils because they glide on so smoothly without tugging on your eyelid. Lately, I have been using a blend of two colors to achieve my desired look. I apply a very thin line of espresso as close to my lash line as possible and then a thin layer of sapphire above that. Blending is key to meld the colors.
