Like most women I know, I decide which eye makeup beauty brands and products to use based upon how well they work; not how much they cost. The old adage, ‘you get what you pay for’ does not ring true to me for the products I use.
Eye Makeup Beauty Brands with Great Mascaras
I could probably fill a large box with all of the different mascaras I have purchased over the years. I shutter to think how much money I have wasted trying to find the best mascara for my eye lashes.
Mascara is my favorite eye makeup product, but it is also the one product that I am the most picky about. I use two mascaras on my eye lashes; first I apply a base volumnizing mascara, primarily focusing on the lash roots, and then I apply a lengthening mascara. No matter how many other mascaras I try, I keep coming back to the same two products.
My favorite mascara for the base layer is Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. I also use Great Lash on my lower lashes.
I buy the washable formula with the small wand in brownish-black.
My other favorite is L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara. It is a lengthening mascara which I apply over the base layer of Great Lash:

There are several reasons that I keep returning to these two mascaras and they are the same for both products:
- The are very reasonably priced
- I love the shape and size of the wands. The Great Lash wand holds plenty of product yet I can still get at the tiny lashes in the corners of my eyes with the point. The L’Oreal wand does a great job of separating my lashes while preventing clumps
- Neither product has a thick formula so both glide on smoothly
- The washable formulas are easy to remove
Bonus reason I love this product: they are so reasonably priced that I can use the products for a month and then toss them if they start to dry-out. I don’t like dry mascara because it starts to get clumpy.
Eye Makeup Beauty Brands with Fantastic Eye Liners
If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you know that I am a big fan of pencil liners. As a matter of fact, that is the only type of liner I use. You can achieve stunning, dramatic looks with liquid and gel liners, but dramatic is just not a good look for me. See, “Eyeliner Style Mastery – Eyeliner Tips to up Your Game“, for more information on eye liners.
I use two brands of pencil liner. I’ve used Covergirl Perfect Point Plus in Espresso for as long as I can remember. I think it was the first crayon pencil liner I’d ever seen. The other brand I use now, after just recently finding it, is Revlon Color Stay Eye Liner in Sapphire. I have blue/grey eyes and I really like the pop of color I get from the sapphire liner.
Like the mascara, I like these two eye makeup beauty brands for many of the same reasons including:
- Both are very affordable and long lasting
- Crayon liners are very easy to apply and they stay put
- The liners come with smudging sponges attached. I like my liner subtle so I use the sponges often
The final affordable eye makeup product that I swear by is the Flutterby Mascara Shield. It is especially helpful for applying mascara to your lower lashes; but it also protects the eye liner and eye shadow on your upper lids and helps to prevent mascara clumps.
